“I see that you passed the first two tests,” Crowstone said, clapping him on the shoulder.

“Without your training I would have nothing,” Kalar said. “Any success I owe to you.”

Crowstone waved a hand at him. “Nonsense. I have only unlocked what was inside from the beginning. Which is all the more important now.”

Kalar frowned.

“Thacnor passed through here no more than a day ago. We are close, Kalar. Closer than I have been in years.”

Kalar looked away, to the horizon where the sun was melting. I come for you, he thought.
